Properties: Attawapiskat BRDC-KED Development Joint-Venture Properties

Modified on October 19, 2004 at 09:02 PM

Property Description

BRDC entered into a joint venture agreement on May 10, 2001, amended and restated on December 3, 2002, with Kel-Ex Development ("KED"), a privately owned company controlled by Mr. Charles Fipke (the “BRDC-KED Joint Venture Agreement” or the “BRDC-KED Joint Venture”).

These claims, collectively referred to as the “Attawapiskat Property”, are located in the North-Eastern Ontario Porcupine District, south-west of James Bay, between the Attawapiskat and Albany rivers and 100 km  east of the. There are currently 114 registered claims blocks which make up the property, for a total of 1,472 units of 16 ha each. These claims represent a total of 23,552 ha (236 km2) of unsurveyed territory.

The project surrounds the de Beers Victor Project both located in the Attawapiskat Kimberlite fields.  Kimberlite is the principal host rock for gem quality diamond. The Victor diamond project, should start production in 2007 for 12 years.  Reserves of 29 million tons of ore containing 6.3 million carats of diamonds of high quality are reported for the Victor Project.

Accessibility

The area is remote and uninhabited, without facilities or infrastructure. The Property can be accessed by helicopter or plane, with seasonal restrictions, from Timmins, Hearst, Cochrane, and Moosonee. A temporary exploration camp was set up by BRDC on a small lake in the centre of the Property, and can be accessed by float plane in the summer, and helicopter year round.

Exploration Program

The exploration program for the Attawapiskat joint-venture project consists in the following:
Geochemical sampling by ATV-portable mechanical auger and small bore core drilling, continuing the follow-up of diamond indicator trains,  and re-interpretation of existing airborne geophysical surveys. The mechanical auger and core drilling follows mainly a fan-tail of Kimberlite Indicator Minerals which seems to indicate a source of interesting KIM’s which seem to improve as we move towards what could be the source of these KIM’s.

Exploration Results

The till-sampling methods uses an All-Terrain Vehicle-mounted small bore mechanical auger and diamond drills.  This new technique has resulted in an increase in the exploration rate so that currently the teams average one hole per day.

To date more than 200 samples have been collected and sent to the CF Minerals laboratories for analysis.  Study of the abundant, high quality Kimberlite indicator minerals found in the samples has lead to the identification of numerous mineral fans which have become the focus of current sampling efforts.

Future Developments

Management is pleased with the results obtained to date.  The JV partners plan on pursuing their exploration efforts on the properties during the 2004 fiscal year.  Pending budget allocations, the partners plan on continuing the ATV-mounted auger and core drilling in a systematic fashion in an effort to locate the source of the excellent quality indicator minerals found to date.  The quality and freshness of the Kimberlite indicator minerals and the Diamond Inclusions minerals found to date is such that the exploration approach currently consists of fence-type lines that cut across the mineral fans going both up and down ice-flow in an attempt to find the mineral source.
